Between hedges of cypress and eucalyptus
trees, cedar and plane trees, the garden opens itself to your amazement. It is
a one of a kind garden, were you will discover lavender as blue as the sky, the
golden yellow color of tansies and big aune flowers and further down, a giant
10 feet sunflower watches the garden, the rosy blue thyme and the little white
savory flowers……we practice chemical free agriculture, allowing white
butterflies to rest on lavenders, bees and ladybugs not the exception. Highly
respectful of life, biological culture never uses artificial fertilizers,
pesticides or insecticides of any kind. The only addendums are natural and come
from mineral, vegetal or marine sources.
Did you know?
Some plants are distilled twice a year but most of the region’s plants are
gathered and distilled once a year between June and September. Some are
processed fresh while others need a few days of drying. You will learn specific
details while strolling through the “carré des simples”…..best time to visit to
witness flowers in bloom: April to July.
Distillation, taming the invisible!
Stills on wheels, spherical stills, or even
“giraffes”, in glass or copper, these are the instruments that reveal the
plants souls! Steam extraction of a few drops is a delicate operation to obtain
the precious heart. There are many different ways to capture the essence of
plants, depending on the plant’s nature and the part to be processed (flower,
root, bark, leaf or bay). Amongst these methods (deflowering, mechanical
expression and slow rate steam distillation), we use the latest on the plants
of our experimental garden to let you witness the transformation from plant to
essential oil!
